Soil PH & moisture probes are hit and miss. Some brands seem to work okay and other, not so much. The moisture side of the probe always seems to work really well on most brands. Ive only really experienced issues with the PH side. These are great budget friendly options that can come in handy. The down side to these is that you cannot just leave them in the soil. You have to remove and clean them after every use. Also constantly poking around in your soil can lead to root damage , but this is only if you go crazy with it.

I just started using this digital soil probe and I'm pretty happy with it so far. This probe reads temperature and PH in both soil and liquid solutions. Its almost like your getting a 2 for 1 deal. Ive tested against my Hanna HI9814, and its right on point every time. This meter is a little more expensive but doesn't break the bank. Like the cheaper probe, you still have to poke around in your soil, you cant just leave it in to continuously monitor. You also have to calibrate this meter periodically and store it correctly so it continues to work accurately.

The Rain point is a continuously monitoring moisture and soil temperature system. The unit comes with an LCD monitor that is "seconds" accurate so you can see live changes. Its a simple unit that just works. The downside is range. The LCD has to be within 10 feet to receive transmission.
